Kan Privacy Policy

Kan is an Android app made by Ilay Bacil, an individual developer ("we"). It reminds you when you arrive at or leave a place you chose, and it can wake you before your stop during a trip.

Kan has no account and no server of ours. Your places and trips are stored on your phone. We don't receive your location.

How Kan uses your location

• Reminders. Kan uses your location to remind you when you arrive at or leave a place you chose, even when the app is closed or not in use. On Android this needs the "Allow all the time" location permission.
• Trips. During a trip, Kan uses your location to wake you before your stop, even if you leave the app. You'll see a notification until the trip ends.

Kan gets your location, and watches the places you chose, through Google Play services on your phone.

What goes to other services

• Google. To find an address, the address or map point goes to Google's location service on your phone. This happens when you place a suggested address, search the whole map, or choose a point on the map, which can be your current location. The suggestions shown while you type are made on the phone, without sending what you type.
• OpenFreeMap. The map loads from OpenFreeMap, which receives your internet address and the map area on screen. The map can open near your current location. OpenFreeMap doesn't receive your reminders.

These services handle the data under their own policies: Google, OpenFreeMap. We don't control what they keep. Kan has no ads or analytics, and we don't sell data.

What stays on your phone

Your reminders (title, note, place, distance, days and hours), whether you were last inside or outside each place, your active trip with its latest location, and your settings. They aren't included in Android's automatic backup.

Permissions

• Location, including in the background: for the uses above.
• Notifications: to show reminders and trip alarms.
• Alarms and reminders: asked for only if you choose a backup alarm for a trip, so it rings on time.

Retention and deletion

A reminder stays on your phone until you delete it or uninstall the app. A trip, with its latest location, is deleted when it ends. Uninstalling removes everything Kan stored on your phone. We receive none of this, so there is nothing for us to delete.

Children

Kan is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It has no accounts, and we don't receive data from anyone who uses it.

Changes

When the app starts handling data differently, we update this page and the date above in the same release. If there is a new purpose, we ask for your consent again.
